As wives and mothers, we provide food,
comfort and many basics for our families. My still life art contain
items of food (fruits), flowers or plants and other household items,
put together in various arrangements, which symbolize the
pleasantries and comfort of the home. The items for my still life that I use are ordinary items, often taken for granted during our daily routines. These items put together however evoke emotions and give visual beauty, much the same as a musician put notes from a scale in an order that can delight its audience or how a poet changes ordinary words and ideas to bring tears to it’s readers. I like the arranging of household decorative items. They are precious gifts from friends and family like glassware or ceramics. I add flowers from my garden and the fruit of the season with colorful fabrics. Often I use side lighting as I like the form, shadows and reflections it gives the objects. I do many setups of items, arranging and rearranging them, and then take photographs. After the photos are developed, I review them over and over again for possible paintings. Sometimes I change color schemes or mix photos. Occasionally I pick a photo design and change it mid painting. When I have my drawing on the canvas, I start by blocking the complete canvas with all the colors. Once I feel the colors have the harmony I like, I go back over the canvas and put one, two or three more thin layers of paint on it until I achieve an accurate, yet soft elegant realism.
